Content to Rehydrate Your Soul

Become a masterful storyteller and build a deep connection with yourself and your audience

This took me 5 min and 47 seconds to read

Content is for you first Reader

Live life for YOU, then film it along the way and share those stories.

It makes sense that if you love the work you do, you’d be embodying it.

My clients are embodiment royalty, so I will use them as examples today.

In Act I, I will address why your content isn’t landing with your audience.

In Act II, I will share how to create your most soul hydrating content.

In Act III, I close it out with a commitment.

Let’s fucking grow.

Act I: The Successful Kidnapper

On this past week’s community call we did 1:1 breakout groups and the prompt I gave was, “Own what you’re great.”

I wanted everyone to unapologetically tell their partner their super power with no shame or hesitation.

This was intentional of course. When everyone returned to the main group, I wanted to support them in creating content where they could showcase their super power without creating content that feels like, “look at me energy,” but instead, a story in which their ideal clients could find themselves in and feel seen and heard.

The first person to go was a feminine leadership coach.

She shared her super power is her ability to stay true to herself even in the midst of very big challenges. Of course, this what she helps her clients do too.

The easy, but very ineffective, content to create is to get on camera and say something like, “I help you embody you true feminine essence and step into your power so that you become an unshakable leader!”

This is ineffective for the simple fact that, because I am human, I don’t believe you.

And why should I, stranger on the internet?

I also wouldn’t get in your van just because you rolled up to the park and told me, “I know your mother she asked me to pick you up AND I have candy!”

I don’t mean to brag, but I learned that like 28 years ago.

However, I could be convinced if you rolled up and said, “Matt! Your mom, Sheila, was lifting a case of wine at her liquor store in Greenwich, and was horribly injured! I was sent here to take you to the hospital!”

I’d believe that because my mom’s name is Sheila and she owns a liquor store in Greenwich.

It’s insanely specific to me.

So I asked this coach if she’d be willing to share where in her life she has been staying true to herself.

Lately she’s been called to have difficult conversations with her friend group and ultimately made the decision to remove herself from the group and seek new empowered friendships.

Not an easy choice to separate yourself from your friend group.

This transition also comes with layered challenges.

It’s lonely.

The fear of loneliness is the reason most people stay in relationships longer than they should.

As she seeks new people to build relationships with, she has been challenged during this lonely transition to settle.

It’s easy to settle when you’re lonely because you crave that that intimacy, safety and comfort of close friends.

But she hasn’t settled.

She took a trip to South America to go inward. To find that safety within herself in this unknown period of her life.

Now that is true leadership.

And that is the content (stories) I encouraged her to share.

Did you notice as you read this, you began to think about your relationships?

Maybe you’re in this situation right now.

You know you’ve outgrown your friends, but are you a dick for even thinking that? Like you’re better than them. Is it wrong to even have that thought? But I kinda do think that and I want some friends who challenge me to uplevel. I feel like I’m always dragging them along.

Don’t you feel far less alone knowing you’re not the only one thinking this right now?

Imagine seeing a reel on Instagram where the person said everything you’re thinking AND actually took the steps to have the difficult conversations with their friends AND doesn’t self sacrifice when things get lonely, but doubles down into her commitment to finding friends who truly expand her.

You can see the difference between a piece of storytelling content vs what most people do: “I help you embody you true feminine essence and step into your power so that you become an unshakable leader!"

I go from not believing you to believing you!

There’s no convincing required.

No yelling a the camera saying, “I can help you step into your power!!”

You build trust by sharing your specific stories of embodying the work.

If you’re not so sure you have those stories.

Well this is the best fucking part.

Get in the van bitch, I got candy.

Act II: Do it for you

The next community member to share is our resident Reparenting Coach.

She wanted to express how cozy and fun she can be in her work and how it allows her audience to open up so they can experience true change.

She feels her content has been a little “stuck up” or too professional.

She has felt a bit trapped in the traditional social worker model where she’s worked for multiple decades.

I asked her how this cozy part of her envisions her content looking.

She told the group she felt she really need a cozy space in her home first so she’s going to take a trip to Home Goods and get some candles, pillows, and other decor to build out the space.

Her face lit up as she shared this.

“YES!!!” I cried, “THIS IS EXACTLY IT!!”

It’s not making a cozy space because it will be an aesthetic look that will help her go viral on Instagram.

It’s because she craves a cozy space in her home for HER (just look at that smile).

A place to read, to journal and to relax as she loosens her proverbial tie (would it be inappropriate to say bra?)

You know what she’s doing right now, don’t you?

She’s reparenting herself.

Not because it’s good content.

Because it’s good for her soul!

Where does her inability to be a little more cozy and feminine come from?

Her dad?

The patriarchy?

I’m not sure, we didn’t get there on the group call, but whatever it is I can promise you she’s not the only mom out there who feels trapped in this box due to conditioning from her past.

She is going first for her audience.

She continues to uncover areas of her life that need reparenting and reparents them.

She embodies the work AND THEN… yeah, she whips out the camera and film some b-roll.

There is no shortage of content because we are all doing soul work.

I don’t care if you’re a coach, you sell homes, make jewelry or own a coffee shop. We are emotional beings desperately seeking deeper soul connection to ourselves and to others.

All you have to do is do the thing that will rehydrate your soul and share how it allows you to show up better in your work.

These are the things that your audience will deeply connect to and allow you to stand apart in your industry.

You will find, these soul tasks don’t have to be big things like breaking up with your friend group (though may be necessary).

Usually it’s the small things that you need and that your audience can join you in, like creating a cozy nook in your home, that they will resonate with most.

Act III: My Commitment

This is what I teach my clients and I’m feeling out of integrity.

When my client’s ask for support with their content, I always ask them what they’re up to.

How are they embodying their work?

There’s always content there OR an opportunity to do something new to rehydrate the soul.

I gotta flip the script on myself.

I say content is for you first.

Live life for YOU, then film it along the way.

I have not been living life for me.

So I’m committed to making big changes this summer.

Not because it’s gonna be great content, but because it’s gonna be great for my soul.

(and then fuck yeah it’s gonna be great content)

I hope this helps you today,

Matt

PS - I have two spots opening in May to work one-on-one with me. Together we will create consistent content which will bring in new leads and nurture current leads, then convert those leads into your existing offer. Book a call here. Spots are filled first come first serve.
